Growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area, the Technician subsisted on a steady diet of YA fantasy, romance, and chocolate chip cookies from a very young age. She discovered a love for writing in elementary school and a passion for editing soon after. She is currently a senior editor and managing web editor for F(r)iction journal, a freelance editor for indie authors and small publishing houses such as Catapult/Counterpoint/Soft Skull, and assistant to Jennifer De Chiara at the Jennifer De Chiara Literary Agency.
The Technician now pursues her ultimate love: editing novels. She specializes in speculative fiction but is open to most genres if the author and she are a fit. She is especially passionate about stories that introduce cultural richness and diversity. She is Mexican, Japanese, and Irish, and particularly loves stories about mixed protagonists or that take place in these cultural contexts as well as any that center around black and brown people.
She aims to help more women, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and people of color to find success, and hopes to one day create a scholarship to help address the problem of privilege in the publishing industry.
When she’s not curled up with a good book, you can find the Technician taking group classes at the gym, playing volleyball, or baking up a storm. You may also surprise her in the kitchen dancing along to mariachi!
